What is ISO?

ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. It is located in Switzerland and was established in 1947 to develop common international standards in many areas. At the beginning of establishment, ISO was named IOS (International Organization for Standardization). But then the name was changed to ISO because the word “iso” in Greek has the meaning of “equal” or “equivalent”.

ISO has members come from over 150 national standards bodies. ISO’s purpose is to facilitate international trade by providing a single set of standards that people everywhere would recognize and respect. Since its inception to date, there are many standard provisions made by ISO. One of them is ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Certification.

ISO 45001 is a newly developed international standard, which outlines the requirements for occupational health and safety. The standard is applicable to organizations of all sizes, whose aim is to manage the prevention of workplace injuries, ill-health, and deaths. In addition, ISO 45001 aims to establish a safe working environment and continual improvement of occupational health and safety performance.
